overall our product follows many forms and conventions of real media products but some factors in our product do challenge them to add some individuality to our product.
In terms of our music video the first thing and the most essential is the lip syncing, in the majority of music videos we looked into this shows up mostly in a plan room where the artist is separate to the story line in a plain room, this is what we did in our video by having the two artists in front of the curtain, because these scenes are quite bare it draws the interest towards the lyrics which in a sadder song makes it more impressionable to the audience.
one way in which our video challenges this is a scene where the couple are in bed they sing along but its as if they are saying the line "the way that you said that you'd always be true", we did this because the line is really true and its something you'd say to a loved one also we thought It gave a cute effect that we were aiming for.
The characters we used were normal everyday people we did this because more and more videos are becoming more realistic and we were inspire by the video for Wilkinson's song Afterglow which uses an average couple, this we thought made our video more relatable and for a song with such meaning, we didn't think over the top actors would work as the attention would be drawn from the meaning of the song. this is also why we used casual costume in the everyday scenes to make it more realistic and then this shows a huge contrast between the formal scenes which are supposed to look separate from the story line almost like they are singing as an impartial member. For these scenes we had the female lead in a full length burgundy dress and the male in a full suit this also gave a professional classy look to the video.
Most of the shot types used are mid shots of the two actors in real life this gives a more natural feel. some long shots were used in the singing scenes to show the empty space and how isolated they are without each other, this was also used in the running shots to show how far they will go to be together, a long shot is also used in the very last scene as you can see all the apace of the theatre setting and them moving closer to take up the physical and mental space between them in their relationship . some close ups were used again in the singing to focus on the lyrics and the meaning behind the lyrics and then in the sadder scenes of them both after an argument. it was also used on there hands to show them as a unit and a couple, that they are strong together. We used panning shots were used in an artistic form to use light to show the actors as bare an unedited.
The editing of the video definitely uses common forms and conventions during the beginning of the video there is soft edits with fade in's and outs in both settings and then when the arguing starts there is quick editing back and forth, according to Todorovs narrative theory this acts as the disruption of the equilibrium, which is then solved when editing becomes softer and there are fades again. This makes it realistic as it acts calm and then it happens all at once like it would in real life. In the middle of the video we layered two scenes over each other, we used it for a few in the instrumental, which gave a really nice slowed down and calm effect and then again to show the two singers singing together, which worked to show them as a couple and singing a duet rather than two separate singers. Then later on there are more quick shots of the argument when the equilibrium is disrupted, there is then slowed down shots of the two running this creates a really nice effect as it makes it seem like they would travel as far and as long as it takes to be together this builds up to a quick kiss scene at the end which then cuts to a still, slow and calm scene of them walking to each other. We end on a calm scene which suggest the happy ending every one needs in a music video.
Our Digipak follows many forms and conventions as we used a common template we made it a little different by doing a six square rather than a four, but the basic structure is very common of Digipak's, the layout has the disk in the middle, the track list on the back and the front image on the front this allows the Digipak to be realistic and like a real Digipak. It also is covered in images of the artist which isn't essential but very common of artist especially female pop singers. the lightings quite dark because its a sadder album and gives a nice professional look to the Digipak. common things such as the music company logo is used to make it more realistic.
The same two fonts is used through out a different album title to the artist name to make it stand out is very common in Digipak's and looks very effective, these are both on the disk as well to create a theme throughout. Another theme that's continued is the butterfly effect on the disk and the butterflies on the side panel, these are also shown on the website which links all the products together.
Some of the other factors of the website that makes it use forms and conventions is the layout. our website has the artists name and butterflies at the top followed by the navigation bar, page information and then the music company logo at the bottom, this is the same on every page and makes it more fluid and easier to use. The website is also covered in pictures of the artist to make it more realistic and identifiable as her real page.
On the home page there is information on latest albums and songs this would be essential on the first page because this is what you want to sell the most and draw peoples attention to. The second page on our website is a tour date page which isn't essential but makes it seem like a real artists page. The gallery page also emphasises this but also according to the hypodermic needle theory allows the audience to have a constant look at what the artist is doing. the final page, the contact page, allows the audience to feel connected to the singer like they are relatable and role models, this allows them to interact with them and make any comments they feel needs to made.
Overall our media product has used many various forms and conventions in order to make our product more realistic and more attractive to our audience, and this has worked well but with the extra individual twist it makes our product interesting, new and original.

Q3. What have you learnt from your audience feedback?
I have learnt so much from my audiences feedback it's helped me shape my product into the most appealing for my audience. Which if the product was released sell well and be an overall successful product.
One thing I did was a questionnaire that I gave to a wide range of people in order to see what everyone would want and then pinpoint my audience. This was essential in order to ensure my product is aimed at who its supposed to be aimed at in order for it to sell well if it was a real product. I found some really useful information about my audience what the majority would like and what they look for in a product, at the end of the day i wanted my product to be appropriate for the masses. i found that the most popular genre was pop which i suspected as this is the common music video on all charts, radio stations and music tv channels because its wanted by the majority of listeners. Among females, who were my main audience a softer Ballad was much more preferred than a fast passed song, this helped me to chose my song over you by Ingrid Michaelson. The questionnaire also allowed me to find that they wanted a sleek and elegant image and they weren't a fan of the extreme and bold style of the singer they wanted someone they could relate to. I used this to create the ideal style persona, someone who showed style and sophistication but was also down to earth, i wanted a role model that people could look up to. I also found that my audience wanted a storyline that evoked emotions that would allow them to connect to it rather than a pointless storyline that has no meaning and is done for the shock factor.
During the course of my product I used small control groups who told me what they preferred, this help me decide what cd pattern to use, the colour schemes and the font style, this really helped me to see what my target audience would like and what they would like to see on something they would by. This feedback needed to be constant during my project so i didn't waste time on something that isn't what the target market wanted.
Due to my target market feedback I feel I've made a really effective product that would sell and get lots of views if it was sold for real. The song follows many very popular ballads styles like Say Something by A Great Big World and Christina Aguilera and Labrinth's Beneath your Beautiful ft. Emily Sande because of the focus on the singer, mine was in an empty room it emphasis the lyrics. This suggests that if this product was released it could be similarly as successful, the editing was the strength in my music video and all the images in my ancillary products. Some of the things that could be worked on is the quality of some of the images which could have been clearer and if i and more social networks on my websites, this would allow the audience to feel more involved in the celebrities life, this makes them seem more realistic and relatable which is very desired for a young teen audience.
Say something
Beneath your beautiful
The audience feedback wasn't a big part of the project but it was very influential when they didn't like something it had to be changed. I gave them as much power as the real world, if an audience doesn't like a product it wont sell. but I also had to remember that not everyone will like the same thing so I had to use my creative skills and gut instincts to make decisions in the project.
